This demonstration package will introduce you to the main features of SNAP!, the 2-D CAD system for the Macintosh. SNAP! is designed for professional use and contains many of the features of Mainframe CAD systems while adhering to the Macintosh interface.
The demo consists of a full working version of SNAP! 3.1 which has the Save, Create, and Output commands disabled. Included is a text information file about the commands and Demonstration Instructions. Use MacWrite 5.01 or any other compatible word processor to open and print the instructions and demonstration files. The text documents use Geneva 10 & 12 pt. When using Macs with a 9" screen and MacWrite you will not be able to see the right side of the page. The page is set up with a minimum 7" wide field because of some of the graphics in the files. You should be still able to print the file however. When using other word processing packages please be sure to set a 7" wide text field before printing the documents. There seems to be a slight formatting problem in the conversion using MacWrite II. You will need to do some slight editing before printing the documents. (Sorry about that!) This was due to the original text documents using tabs which had been stripped out, but MacWrite II seems to put these back in. There wasn't time to edit all of the instructions at this point in time and I wanted to keep the old version available for the people who haven't upgraded to MacWrite II. You can correct this formatting problem with MacWrite II by doing a select all and then inserting a couple of tabs at the extreme left margin.
SNAP! 3.1 will work on the following Macintosh computers: 512KE, Plus, SE, and Mac II (in color).
A hard drive and system 6.0 or higher is recommended even though you can run the program from the floppy (you will need a system floppy). If you only have one floppy drive this is going to cause a lot of disk swapping! SNAP! takes full advantage of the 16 million colors available on the Mac II and also supports Laserwriter and color Postscript output. Also included in the standard SNAP! software are plotter drivers that support the HPGL and DMPL languages. I think you will find that this package is one of the most flexible on the market today.
SNAP! is one of the first CAD programs to take advantage of the ADB bus (SE and Mac II) using a Kurta or GTCO digitizing tablet (up to 42" x 60"). This allows the user to create his own menu and library digitizer menus and precisely digitize drawings into the database (.001 accuracy on large GTCO tables). (See tablet example in the demo drawing folder). This actually works better than the mouse since you have all of your commands in front of you. You need only to move the tablet pointer over the appropriate command button on the tablet and click. The command is entered and you are ready to perform the operation. This is much quicker than using the mouse on any screen menus. Mainframe CAD systems have been using this feature for years. Additional libraries and digitizing templates are available. Among these are Architectural Plan Symbols, Office Layout, Electrical, Formats, Machine Screws.

If you experience problems running this demo, check your desk accessories. It has been noted that some desk accessories such as TEMPO and some screen savers have some adverse effects when trying to run SNAP!. It has also been noted that some CDEVs strip the SNAP! resources (one of these is SoundMaster). There may be some adverse effects if you are using a active Virus dectection program, because SNAP! accesses seperate resource files such as the Vector Fonts. The program will still run, but you may have to quit the demo completely to access another design file instead of just closing the design file. This is not a problem with SNAP!, but with the way the desk accessories and CDEVs were written. I have noted the same problem with several other CAD packages as well. SNAP! is completely in accordance with the Apple programming standards and has no problems with the majority of the desk accessories on the market.
